FPA Honors Women's Health Advocates at Annual Meeting

Family Planning Advocates of New York State honored the outstanding work of individuals who have helped advance reproductive health and rights in New York State at its Annual Meeting October 23. FPA Board Member Rev. Thomas Davis and other clergy reflected on the life of Dr. Barnett Slepian, an obstetrician/gynecologist who was murdered in his home by an anti-choice zealot on October 23, 1998.

Sex Education Bill Advances in the State Senate

The Healthy Teens Act (A.2856/S.1342) was favorably reported today by the Senate Health Committee. The bill will establish a grant program to make comprehensive, age-appropriate, medically accurate sex education available to young people.

Clergy Gather at Senate Chamber to Call for Real Sex Education

Teens, parents and health advocates will join with Clergy outside of the Senate Chamber in the State Capitol today to urge Senators to bring the Healthy Teens Act to the floor for a vote. The Healthy Teens Act has passed the Assembly four years in a row with huge bipartisan votes. But the bill has yet to be brought for a vote by the full Senate.
